After finishing high school in only two years Liz Murray won the New York Times scholarship for students in need. Then she was accepted to Harvard University. In 2003, the movie "Homeless to Harvard: The Liz Murray Story" was released based on her life. To care for her sick father she left Harvard and continued her education at Columbia University. However in 2006 her father died of AIDS and decided to put school off. After her movie was debuted on Lifetime she was interviewed by Oprah Winfrey, also winning the Oprah's Chutzpah Award. She returned to Harvard and graduated in 2009 with a degree in psychology. She is a motivational speaker and has created her own foundation named Manifest Living. Continuing her school work she is taking Harvard summer school classes to get her doctorate in clinical psychology and become a counselor. The next year she released her best-selling book, "Breaking Night: A Memoir of Forgiveness, Survival and My Journey From Homeless to Harvard". Liz Murray continues to be a motivational speaker for the Washington Speakers Bureau, and host self-help workshops. She is planning to release a second book.
